Jiu Fen

九份

Updated: This post is updated on 8th March 2013 with prior to a trip with my friend, Weian. Note: This is review post on my trip to Taipei, Taiwan. FYI, I went on this trip with my friends, Calvin and Jason. Subject on Jiu Fen(九份).

Inside the street of Jiu Fen

Jiu Fen(九份) is one of the famous tourist spot in Taipei. Well, it's a must come when you are visiting Taipei. To get here, you have to take the train instead of metro and alight at Ruifang station(瑞芳站). Normally, many free-and-easy tourists would plan to go Pingsi(平溪) and Shi Fen(十份) on the same day with Jiu Fen(九份) as it's on the way too. (:

Entrance of Ruifang station (瑞芳站)

FYI, after you alighted at Ruifang(瑞芳), you must take a bus which head towards Jinguashi(金瓜石) at the bus stop in front of Wellcome in order for you to reach Jiu Fen(九份).

When you come to Jiu Fen, there are many foods and souvenir stores around. Their most famous products that you probably might want to buy are their woodcrafts. There are many stores selling a lot of small souvenirs made of wood.

Other than these little souvenirs, there are also foods that you cannot miss. Jiu Fen(九份) is famous for their yam balls and fish balls. When you visit Jiu Fen, do come try them out. Anyway, we came here, we also tried the wild boar's sausage and peanut-ice cream wrap too. There are also many nice snacks around here.

The first store we stopped by is this store, '九份传统鱼丸'.

The fishballs, yummy!

Next, we tried the beef noodles(牛肉面). The store name is '九份老面店'. Btw, one of the store personnel knows Japanese although she's a Taiwanese. Amazing, right? Their famous dish is the beef noodles, that's why we ordered one to try.

Close up of the beef...it taste not bad. Hahas.

Then, we tried this. Peanut-ice cream wrap. Note, it's not peanut flavoured ice cream. It's vanilla ice cream, sprinkled with peanut crisps on it and then, it was wrapped with the same dough skin as the pohpia(薄饼) ones. Well, it's not very sweet and it tastes really refreshing. Do try one when you visit Taiwan some day.

We continue to search for good food. Then, we came by this store selling sausages. You must be wondering what's so special, right? Yup, it's special because it's not pork, but it's wild boar's sausage...meaning that it's made of wild boar's meat. Also same as pork, but the meat of wild boar is more tender and much more easier to chew on.

The final stop for food ends at this store, '懒阿婆芋圆'. The store is one of the famous one in Jiu Fen. We stopped by here before we left Jiu Fen(九份).

Our share, don't look like a small serving, right? Hahas.

During the trip with Weian, we tried '阿柑姨芋圓' instead, also featured on the famous Taiwanese food show, '食尚玩家'.

Both of the 芋圓's stores were featured on the famous Taiwanese food show, "食尚玩家".

When come Jiu Fen(九份), other than just souvenirs and foods, the scenery there is really quite awesome too. Btw, when you walk around in Jiu Fen, you will notice that the street is a slope itself. As you walk further up, you will get to see the nice scenery, it's hardly that you will get lost there.

These are some of my shots at the top.

The previous trip with Calvin and Jason did not went too well, the mist and fog is too thick. However, this time round, I got a really nice view of the mountains and landscape from the top. I am really happy and glad. During this trip, I also visited some new stores and they are very interesting.

2013's trip

I came by this store selling old time goodies, everything was so vintage. I like the feel of the store, well, since it's a old street. This kind of store should be pretty common...but you are wrong, I only came by this store selling old time candies and toys. The rest of the stores were targetted at the tourists and much modern. Anyway, if you are visiting Jiu fen, do drop by here to take a look! Hahas.

Then, we also tried another stall that sell fishballs too. This one is quite popular too, I seen a lot of people dining inside the store. They got fishballs and tofu. It's quite filling if you order the one with mixed balls and tofu. Weian ordered one bowl for his lunch. Well, I must say that, he is quite a big eater and easily hungry. Lols. Anyway, the store's name is 鱼丸伯仔 for your information.

That's about my review on Jiu Fen(九份). I hope this review will give you more insights and what you can expect from Jiu Fen. Stay tuned for my next review on pingxi(平溪). (:
