Nagasaki Chinatown

Afternoon Peeps, it's Sunday and I am back for another weekly update. In today's post, I will be sharing about my visit to Nagasaki's Chinatown. Compared to Yokohama's Chinatown, Nagasaki one is fairly smaller. However, its nearby Shotengai (Shopping Arcade) make up for its size though. To get to Chinatown, visitor can take the tram from Nagasaki station front and alight at Tsukimachi station (築町).

I was greeted by this red gate thingy from the entrance of the Chinatown street. There are few restaurants selling Chinese foods and some random souvenir stores. A short walk to the end of the street, you will reach an annex/plaza. Here, there are few Chinese structures which represents the Chinese during the olden days. Nagasaki serves as an important port for imports and exports of foreign goods during those days.

Coming to Chinatown, one of the must-try dishes is nonetheless, the Champon (ちゃんぽん). This Chinese-Japanese fusion ramen is probably one of the famous local dishes. Other than that, most of the Chinese foods are not too bad either. I spend less than an hour around Chinatown, taking some photos and burning some calories walking around before heading to the shopping arcade.

One of the must-buy gifts in Nagasaki's shopping arcade is none other than its Castella cake. The most popular brand is of course, Fukusaya (福砂屋). This brand has been a staple since 1624. Its logo is famous for its bat-like shaped which make it quite an interesting brand. I stayed at the arcade for about an hour before leaving to visit the peace park (which I will share more next week).
