Kumamoto Castle

Evening peeps! It's Monday, I am back for another weekly post. So sorry for the delay in posting. In today post, I will sharing about my trip to Kumamoto Castle (熊本城). Just for your info that the castle is still under repair and maintenance process. Thus, I can only view the castle from far. As you know, the castle was badly affected by the Kumamoto earthquake in 2016 and the surrounding attractions including Mt. Aso were all affected.

Kumamoto castle is one of the biggest castles in Kyushu. Its park is quite huge and attracted many tourists and locals for picnic and during spring, the cherry blossoms season, the park will be packed with people. Though, you cannot enter the castle for now, you are able to view it from far. There is also some nice spots for taking photos.

The castle park has essential amenities such as restrooms and vending machines as usual. There is also an annex area where tourists can learn about the castle and shop for souvenirs. Nearby the castle, housed the popular shrine, 'Kato Shrine'. From the shrine, tourists can get much close-up to the castle. After the earthquake, the castle suffered really bad damage. From the close-up of some spots, you can see how strong the quake is.

After exploring the castle compound, I headed to Suizenji which I will share more about in my next Kumamoto post. I sure hope to be back to Kumamoto Castle when it is properly restored in the future. To get to the castle, take the tram from JR Kumamoto station and alight at Hanabatacho (花畑町). Then, there are signs to show the direction of the castle, it's about a 5-mins walk.

I have come to the end of this short travel post. I hope the photos in this post have attracted you to visit the castle? Hahas. Please do come back next week for another weekly update. Thanks! :)
