Suizenji

Afternoon friends and readers! I am back for another weekly update. In today post, I will be sharing about my visit to Suizenji in Kumamoto city. Suizenji (水前寺) is one of the notable gardens in Kumamoto city. That being said, the garden is one of the most visited places when one come to Kumamoto. The garden was built by the Hosokawa (細川) family in the 17th century. The garden reconstructs the past 53 post stations of the Tokaido, one of the important roads that connect Edo with Kyoto during the Edo Period. In its miniature form, it has a small Mt. Fuji too.

I spent about an hour there or so before leaving for shopping after that. The garden is not too big, right at the entrance of the garden is a row of shops that sell souvenirs and light snacks. Visitors can also rent yukata at one of the stores too. It was drizzling during my visit, quite sad to see that. However, I think the yukata rental store is quite popular for taking photos at the garden.

As the name of the garden suggested, the garden also housed a temple where visitor can pray at too. Uma and prayer strips are spotted as usual. Nearby the temple, visitor will also spot the mini Inari tori gates. A lot tourists were here taking photos. Lols. During autumn, there are parts of the garden which the autumn foliage were really beautiful.

I have come to the end of this short post. I hope the information here will help you plan your trip better! Anyway, it cost 400円 to access the garden. To get here, simply take a tram from JR Kumamoto station and alight at "Suizenji Koen" (水前寺公園). Once alighted, it's only about 5 minutes walk to the garden. There are also signs directing you to head where so no need to worry too much on getting lost. :)
