Danshui
淡水
Main entrance of Tamsui/Danshui(淡水) Metro station.
Danshui(淡水) is a must-visit spot when you come Taipei. It's the last station of the metro train route. It's pretty easy to navigate around too, beside the locals are really friendly. Hahas. When you tap out from the station, remember to walk around the station for some good snacks. My friends and I bought bubble tea and sponge cake to munch on while walking around Danshui old street(淡水老街).
50岚, quite a famous bubble tea chain in Taipei. Well, the taste of the bubble tea is quite alike to our KOI here. (:
Tasty sponge cake snack, it taste really awesome. Hahas.
Red bean and butter paste flavoured.
We also tried Mister Donut over at danshui, well, mister donut are quite popular among the locals. I seen many outlets around Taipei. So out of our curiosity, we went to buy one to try out. The taste is really nice and not bad. Hahas. I think you guys should try one when you are visiting Taiwan. (:
So anyway, we walked around danshui, then we dropped by their market place there. It's a good experience seeing market place in a different country. Inside the market, I bought some snacks for my parents. Though, the boss told us about the name of the snacks, but because there are so much stuffs to see, I already forgotten about the name of the snacks.
The snack store that I bought those snacks.
After you walk a distance, you will come across this wall and there will be a sign stating to the red house. But do not be mistaken the red house to be the Fort San Domingo(红毛屋). They are 2 different places. But it's worth the effort to climb up to check out as, when you are at the top, you will see part of danshui city. It's quite a nice view and great for photoshoot.
This is what I get from the top of the red house. It's quite nice, isn't it?
Calvin and Jason posing for me. Hahas, the photo on the right, is the actual red house building.
Then we walk and walk till we reach the Fort San Domingo(红毛屋). On our way there, we passed by Dr. Mackay's church. Well, it's one of the famous historic site at danshui.

Ok, then we reached the Fort San Domingo(红毛屋).
Inside the fort.
When you are inside the fort, do look out for the mountain opposite of danshui. The locals named the mountain as 'Guan Ying Shan'(观音山). The view opposite is really very beautiful.
Beside the fort, you will see the British Consular Residence. The below is the photo of the building.
Well, we went explored around in the British Consular Residence. You actually can see how the British family spend their time in the olden days. It's quite interesting and you will gain a lot of rich knowledge of the British and Danshui(淡水) from there.
A little more walk, you will reach the Alethiea university (where the oxford college is located). This is another place that Dr. Mackay is being remembered in Taiwan. Do come here to explore, there are students around whom will help you with understanding the history better. It's quite an experience to interact with the local students. (:
Our last stop of our historic tour is the little white house(小白宫). Well, inside here, there's nothing much to explore. Anyway, this place is famous for wedding photoshoot. We just came across some couples that day we went. I must say, it's a nice place for photoshoot. FYI, there are site guides all around the historic sites, this is so that if you got some questions on the histories of the place, you can ask them. That's really helpful, rite? Hahas, I seldom see this case happening in Singapore and it's like we got to pay for the guide service if we want to know more about Singapore's histories. Face palm...
After all that tiring walk, it's time for food. Slurp...Hahas. As many forumer and locals recommended, when you visit Danshui(淡水), this is one of their famous food that we cannot miss, it's 'ah gei'(阿給). We drop by the nearby store which is also recommended by the guide at the historic site. The store name is '文化阿給', you can easily find it when you walk further down from the white house(小白宫).
My bowl of 阿給. Taste really nice, FYI, it's tofu wrapped with meesua(面线) inside.
After finished with our lunch. We went to the fisherman's wharf. Well, it's really cold there during March. So remember to wear more clothes if you are going. The night view may be nicer which I not very sure either as I only saw the night view on posters. Hahas. But, when you go during day time, you get better photos, not? It's because of the sunlight that enable you to take better photos.
At the fisherman's wharf, I took these photos. There are more on my facebook account. Do go take a look.
The lover bridge.

Ok, my danshui(淡水) review will end here. Check out my review on shida night market(师大夜市) on my next post. Do stay tuned. (:
