Liu He Night Market

六合夜市

I went Taiwan once again, this time, it’s with Wei An. This is a travel post on Liu He Night Market (六合夜市), Kaohsiung.

Taipei got Shilin night market (士林夜市), Taichung got Feng Jia night market (逢甲夜市)…Kaohsiung have Liu He night market (六合夜市). The top 3 cities in Taiwan each have one of their famous night market and for Kaohsiung, it is Liu He night market (六合夜市). The night market is located nearby Formosa Boulrvard (美丽岛) KRT station. To get here, alight at that station and take exit 1.

The night market is not very huge, you can use probably less than an hour to finish walking the night market. Liu He Night Market (六合夜市) is famous for their seafood and papaya milk shake. These two are the main lead of the night market. Other than them, there are also many light snacks like dumplings and BBQ meat.

The main street of 六合夜市

Liu He Night Market (六合夜市) as compared to his brother Rui Fong Night Market (瑞豐夜市) targeted more at the tourists market rather than the locals. In terms of food and shopping, Rui Fong Night Market (瑞豐夜市) stands out quite a lot. However, Liu He Night Market have more walking space than compared to the crowded Rui Fong Night Market, so if you don’t like crowd and squeezing, I would suggest you to go Liu He Night Market instead.

Anyway, during my stay, I visited both of the night markets. I shall share what I have tried and ate at Liu He Night Market. For now, sit back and enjoy reading/seeing the photo of the foods I had eaten during my trip! Hahas.

House of BBQ meat (烤肉之家) is one of few popular snack stores in the night market. It was featured on the famous Taiwanese food show, “食尚玩家”. As a fan of the show, I would not miss this. Well, I ordered some of the cheaper options like the “炸黑轮” (NT$10) and “七里香” (NT$30). Both snacks were tasty and delicious, accompanied by the sauce used, it is heavenly. I would recommend anyone who is visiting Liu He Night Market to try this, no harm tasting it too. Hahas.

When I was queuing for the BBQ snacks, Weian went to bought dumplings from “一口煎饺”. He really like dumplings, I realized. Anyway, the dumplings were also very tasty and nice. It is located just opposite “烤肉之家”, that day, we were served by one of the Caucasians staff. It was quite a fresh thing since we are in an Asian’s country.

As mentioned earlier in this post that seafood is one of must try in the night market, we also grabbed one of the famous dishes in the night market. We sat down and enjoyed our seafood congee (海产粥) and seafood soup (综合汤). The seafood congee is also featured on many food shows and travel guides. So, if you came here and never stop by to grab a bowl, it is like you never been to the night market before. By the way, the congee is not cheap, it cost NT$100 for one bowl. It’s quite steep, but I think it’s pretty worth it. The soup base is something that you should not miss. I believed that it is one of the nicest soups I ever tasted in my life.

After eating so much foods, people tends to get thirsty, no fear, let’s try this papaya milk shake from “呂之家果汁”. The store is patronized by many famous celebrities and politicians, so I assumed that the drinks should be nice. Well, the milk shake was really up to my expectation and I think it tasted really smooth and nice. Click here to read more about the store.

Still not enough of good foods? Let’s order one bowl of “土魠魚羹” to wrap up your visit. We ate the “土魠魚羹” at the store nearby the interception point of 六合二路 and 南台路. The土魠魚羹 is tasty and the fish meat is tender too! Each bowl cost NT$50, it’s quite affordable. Overall, I think it is one of the nice foods that you should try if you happened to drop by.
