Sun Moon Lake

日月潭

I went Taiwan once again, this time, it’s with Wei An. This is a travel post on Sun Moon Lake (日月潭), Nantou.

Sun Moon Lake (日月潭) is located in Nantou, Taiwan (南投, 台湾). Within 1 hour and 30 mins of coach ride from Taichung, you can reach Sun Moon Lake (日月潭). Before I get going, I shall brief on some stuffs on Nantou (南投) since I didn’t cover much during this 2013 trip. There are quite a number of famous attractions in Nantou and Sun Moon Lake is one of them. The others include Ji Ji (集集), Xitou (溪頭), Yushan national park (玉山國家公園) and also Qing Jing farm (清境農場). Nantou is famous for their tea leaves. So if you are visiting here, do not forget to get some back home.

PS: Nantou is another state of Taiwan (E.g. like Johor is a state of Malaysia).

Anyway, Nantou is same as Taichung, their transportation is not very convenient. For this visit to "日月潭", we took a tour coach to bring us around to see the attractions. The tour includes transportation, ferry fares, cable car fares and lunch too. I paid NT$1400 (I forgot the actual pricing…dots) for the tour. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the tour. We visited some of the popular places at Sun Moon Lake like the Wen Wu temple (文武廟) and Xuan Guang temple (玄光寺). I shall share some photos of the places that I have visited below.

By the way, we have lunch at some random restaurant (玛盖旦) located at the area nearby the tourist shopping street at the habour. We took like around an hour or so to finish our lunch and do some walk around before heading for the ferry tour. For the lunch, it was really tasty and delicious. We also tasted their local fish, "奇力魚" (Which is also their special local dish). Click here to read more about their special goods in Nantou. Another additional info for you guys, the aboriginal there are the people of "邵族". I heard from the tour guide that this group of people has the least population among the other aboriginal (原住民) in Taiwan.

Dessert!

We ended our tour at one of the gift stores in Puli, Nantou. Anyway, the store name is "一福堂". The goodies were really expensive but I still highly recommend their lemon cake. It’s really tasty and not too sweet. It is soft and it melts in your mouth, it is just that heavenly. So, if you are visiting there, do grab a box back to hotel for supper. :)
