Visit to Singapore's Japanese Cemetery Park
Afternoon peeps, it's Sunday! I am back for another weekly update. In today's post, I will be sharing about my visit to the popular Japanese Cemetery Park located in Serangoon estate of Singapore. It's my first time visiting the place so it's really an new experience for me. To get here, simply take a bus (43, 43M) from Serangoon station and then alight at "Aft Serangoon Nth Ave 1", cross over to the other side of the road towards Chuan Hoe Avenue. Walk along the terrace homes pavement and you will eventually come to the park entrance. The park is managed by the Japanese Association Singapore and is opened daily from 0800 hrs to 1830 hrs.

Greeted by rows of Jizou statues when entered and the park was really quiet and peaceful. The ambience was a bit scary afterall, it's a cemetery. After some phototaking around the park, it turns out okay. This park was also made famous by many local bloggers and newspapers. Even tourists would visit here when they dropped by Singapore. The park is also one of the biggest ones in Southeast Asia. Note: There is a mini map located in the park to describe the area of the park.

The history of the park goes way back to the 19th century where it was built during the Showa era and before the war. It was really even before I was born. The Jizou in the park here are built to protect Japanese girls and women during their stay in Singapore. Of course, this is because many of them came here in the past to work and passed on in Singapore without returning back to Japan. Till date, these Jizou statues continues to watch over these souls. Not to mention, I think also for current Japanese whom are still in Singapore.
Many Japanese companies based in Singapore also helped donated funds to manage and maintain the park. These include big names like Canon, Mitsubishi and so forth. There is a small plaza to commemorate the donors whom contributed to the building and maintenance of the park. I have learnt much during my visit here. I hope my visit here and this post will give you enough insights to go visit the park yourself.
However, note that the park is to built to give peace to the passed on. So, try to keep your volume low and refrain from entering the tomb area to take photos. I also feel it's not appropriate to take photo of the tombstones too, please refrain from doing so.
